I know canyon have a massive following on the MTB forums including this one, and tbh my oh has a canyon nerve so i know there process of selling and know mtb's have a great value for money. But are the road bikes as good value??

Currently i have a Giant Rapid 4 which i love, its a great fast urban hybrid obv not as fast as a road bike, im covering about 40-100 miles a week just keeping fit so i can still ride the mtb trails with pace.

I was looking at the roadlite al 6.0, any views? anyone have one?? or should i stick to well known brands for my road fix?

I think they offer one of the best value ranges out there at the moment, not much else comes anywhere near close and they are great bikes to boot. Just about every german than comes to mallorca seems to pass through the airport with one and seen literally hundreds here and they look a great bike. It will be my next purchase once I have finished with my current ride. I fancy the team edition of the Aeroad. Saw one last week beautiful and great VFM. The cheaper end of the range gets you so much more equipment than you find on a similar price bike bought through a shop. check you get the right size etc before ordering and i hear but no experience myself) customer service if you get problems can be a bt hit and miss but I will be buying one in the future.
  • Absolutely love my Ultimate CF SLX9 - at least a grand cheaper than I could have got equivalent spec. And I have yet to find any review that has had a bad word to say about them.

Can't comment on the order/delivery service as I picked mine up in person from their showroom in Germany whilst on holiday. Am very glad I did as otherwise I would have got the wrong size (in fairness their online size tool was spot on - I just convinced myself I needed smaller).

Nice bikes, where do you put the batteries :?:
  • ..I've been looking at these too, love the look and spec (and esp the price) of the Ultimate AL but getting put off a bit as they seem maybe too race orientated (super-stiff etc) for this old git?..whereas the Roadlite doesn't appeal so much (would have been a great first road bike had I known), though the geometry would probably suit me better.

Any thoughts on how suitable the Ultimate AL is for all day riding at a cosy 15/17mph ave.?
..oh and, are all the Ultimate AL frames the same and the numbers (7, 8,9) simply to denote the different specs?

Depends what you are use to but very good frame for all day riding. Pretty sure frame is the same across all the range just different specs available.
  • I'm used to an Orbea Aqua with the stem flipped!...the head-tube on the AL looks 10mil shorter than the Aqua while the seat tube is longer.....so I guess I'd need a vertical stem to get comfy!!....having said that, I've no problem on the drops, it's more about the reach and the top tubes are compatible...this is where it gets tricky with not being able to test ride...but for me the spec of the Ultimate AL 9 SL is what I'd eventually build my prospective £1500 carbon job up to!
...maybe see if they will configure a Roadlite to my spec??

...and as its going to pee down all day tomorrow and I've just super-cleaned the bike, I'm off to the pub!

You can't configure a bike from canyon. Look at Rose bikes (another German Internet only company) . You can spend hours on their site configuring bikes!
Do like the canyons though and they have some excellent reviews across all the range.

I have an ultimate AL which is use all year and a carbon CF SLX for races / sportives.

I must say the AL it is absolutely fantastic. It is a really light frame and feels pretty stiff when you are out of the saddle, but also reasonably comfy when you have done a fair few miles. The seat posts are spot on too, and really help with the comfort.

as others have said the frames are all the same no matter what model you buy. Also have a look on their outlet section you might strike lucky if you find something in your size.

Will be interested in seeing the reviews when they come out for the new Canyon VCLS 2.0 seat post. It appears to be only available on the ES (ergo speed) models . I emailed Canyon to see if you could have it on a non ES bike and they said no.

surprised about that, I assumed the new 2.0 post was available as an option on any model tbh

That's what Canyon said in their initial press release....

Suspect it's either (a)Canyon UK running at normal efficiency levels or (b) a few too many current versions in stock....

Either way I wouldn't bet against it being an option to buy when the first batch of new bikes have shipped.

    Pretty sure it is.
I've ordered one of the 2013 SLX range which doesn't have the 2.0 post as standard, but I mailed them back once I received my order confirmation asking if it was possible to add it, and it's now been added to my order. It was about an extra £100 though.

Well hopefully you are correct then but this was the reply from Canyon I got about having the new seat post on the new Ultimate AL 9.0 (not the ES one)

    Dear Rando,

Unfortunately we are unable to offer the flat spring post with this bike.

Because the flat spring post isn't available yet
  • My updated order confirmation has the following addition (plus the extra on the price of the bike)...
    No. Description Unit Qty.
    A1035577 VCLS Post 2.0 ST. 1
    white decals

That said you will be able to buy the post (once released) anyway as sold by Ergon...

So if I bought a 2012 AL 9.0 Di2 from the Outlet sale I could then buy the seatpost next year for hopefully additional comfort.Worth thinking about.
  • I have a CF
Its a great bike and cost ££££ less than something from the LBS

On the other hand Ive had a few niggles with mine, minor but annoying things like badly set up gears leading to the chain smashing into the BB on its first ride and warranty claims which are handled efficiently but effectively at your own cost for disassembling and reassembling the bike
