I Have a Trek 2.1 which has an external B/B. The Chainset is a Shimano R-600
I am thinking about changing the B/B and would like to do the job myself. (I know as a one off it may be cheaper to let the lbs do it).
The B/B is a 1.37 24. I have looked on the net for a replacement but got confused by the different ones. Will a one compatible with shimano 105, ultegra etc do or have they to be compatible with the chainset.

any Shimano road BB will be fine.

You can also use other brands - CK, Hope, RaceFace, Acros etc. Just stay away from GXP - it's a different design, and MTB (narrower cups)

R-600 crank is Ultegra equivalent, so BB-6700 is similar quality, but anything up from Tiagra BB-4600 is compatible.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
