In my never ending quest to make myself look like a Christmas tree in the dark I often spend time mooching around eBay. I've noticed there's bar end plugs with LEDs in them, varying colours but red would be the one I'd be interested in.

These are the things I mean

Has anyone got an experience with them? Are they reliable? Bright? Or is it just a waste of money? Also been looking at these

they look pretty awesome to be fair, but again I don't want to buy and they be utter crap - let's face it ebay is renown for junk.

Thanks :)

  • No experience of those but my mate uses the Tacx ones and they seem quite good, more dish though.

I heard the indicators are a bit $hitty, and the build quality was questionable?

Yeah I think they would be better without the indicator function.

No one in their right mind use the indicator function, would they? Much safter to stick your arm out than look down to find the button.
That aside my wife has some of these, they are quite good for looking like something out of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and certainly make you noticeable, but the build quality is indeed a bit poor & battery life not brilliant. But for £20 they're ok.
A well executed robust version would be good.

I have never seen them being used as indicators but as lights, I think they look good, the lights are bright but of course they should be accompanied but something which produces more light.

I'd like to know what people think of the laser light.

The bar plug lights look ok but I'd go with at least two normal lights on the back.

I suspect some digital image manipulation for the images on the second one?

As for the LED bar end plug - I tried some a few years ago but found they didn't like being used in the rain.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Certainly interested in the Tacx ones, primarily since they look like they'd last longer than the crappy looking cheap ones. I may just take a gamble on the road illuminating one.
