Wilier GranTurismo - tiny bubbles under the lacquer

Hello,

I own a Wilier GranTurismo 2012 (bought it approx. 14 days ago).
I want to ask you about one issue: I found a cluster of tiny bubbles under the lacquer, in length of approx. 1 cm. It's under the top tube and you can feel it with your fingers. Is this something to be worried about? Why does this happen and will it progress or spread? I sent a picture to Wilier and they just replied that I should talk to my dealer... I'll definitely do that, but I wanted to get an expert opinion from them...

There have been warranty issues relating to paintwork on Wiliers in the past. Seems like they haven't sorted it.

If they are solid it might just be dust under the lacquer but anyway, no point worrying about it until you've spoken to the dealer. Ultimately, it depends on how much it bothers you but it isn't in a visually bothersome spot.
    Faster than a tent.......
  • Sorry to be a bit late on this one, just spotted it trawling through the forum.

I had a similar problem issue on an Izoard 18 months ago. I contacted ATB Sales and forwarded photos to them. They agreed to swap out my frame under warranty but unfortunately it was going to be an XP which had an inferior spec to the one that was to be replaced. They then offered me a Gran Turismo frame for a couple of hundred pounds extra.....No brainier as far as I was concerned. Couldn't fault ATB whatsoever, sent the faulty bike down there and received a gleaming Gran Turismo a week later.

Sorry, this was a long way of saying give ATB a call.

Yes, but I assume that you bought your bike at ATB sales?
  • The bike was bought from ATB Sales via a third party (not a bike shop).
I had to send my bike back via a local Wilier dealer who fortunately had no quarms returning it to ATB for me.
Have you spoke to the shop that you bought the bike from ? I'm guessing they will contact ATB Sales on their / your behalf.
  • I haven't spoken with my dealer yet, I'll do that when I have my first service next week. I'll see what they say...
As for for ATB Sales - I'm not from UK, so I don't think they can help me :)
  • Update: I'm getting a new frame! :) Thumbs up for Wilier! Now I'm thinking of getting a matte frame - I think that those kind of problems do not happen on matte frames, or do they? What do you think?
