First Bike Build, fallen at the first hurdle
Hey everyone.
I am new to the forum and in need of advice, I will no doubt be in need of much more in the next few months.
I have decided to build myself a new bike over the winter, I have set myself a budget and spent several weeks trawling the net looking at bike bike porn before deciding on a Cervelo R3 with Campag Record groupset, wheels to be decided upon.
However I have immediately hit a snag when ordering the groupset as I have no idea and cannot seem to find out what size bottom bracket I require. The options are BB30 68x42, BB30 68x46, 86.5x41, English 68mm or Italian 70mm.
Could I ask the collective knowledge of the forum to help me before my lass get serious about appropriating some of my budget for a totally unnecessary lounge redecoration.
Thanks

Do you have the bike in front of you as if you do the dimesnions given are the what you need.
The new R3's are Pressfit 30 68x46 acording to Cerevelo's website. Don't how this is different for previous years.
If you don't have the frame yet and still not sure just hold buy that groupset once you have the frame. Record 11 speed will be nice.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
All winter for a few hours build?
Check the spec of the frame your are buying it will tell you what bottom bracket is suitable.0 -
With the right part ordered in advance... the right toolkit... a good book (and/or the internet handy)... You can build your bike in one day... even an evening! Of coure if its your first build then it will take a bit longer but I'm sure you'll be done before the end of the winter
And yeah... Cervelo have changed their bottom bracket recently. The new R3s are as cycleclinic said above! 68x46. The older frames (2010 and earlier, correct me if im wrong cervelo fanatics?) suffered an issue of cracking around the alu bb shell and carbon frame - so thats worth noting if your getting an older frame.0 -

It may be a 'few hours build' for you, but it may be something completely new to the OP.
As cycleclinic and nweststeyn stated, the new R3 uses BBright technology for the BB. Standard 68mm allows for 11mm addition on the shell or frame, or something like that. I'm not sure about the technical aspect. Someone here will elaborate, I'm sure.Ghost Race 5000 (2011) Shimano 105 Black

Still this one only took you 5 days to respond, so I guess we should be grateful your reactions are improving0 -
