Hi Guys,

Just got my Halfords cycle to work voucher and looking at the Boardman team carbon.
The voucher runs until Jan 2013, I was wondering if it was worth waiting to see if a new model is released or the current carbon gets any discounts closer to Xmas....any advice?

Also on a side note...are there any bikes comparable to the boardman carbon at this price? (£1300), as Halfords are able to source other bikes that are not boardmans (Pinarellos for example)

Thanks in advance :)

boardman give very good value for money but have you checked with your local halfrauds that they will give you the £1300 model on your voucher? Last time I was in they wouldn't budge for anything and the max voucher is £1000iirc.

They are always having special offers on bikes so could be worth waiting until prices drop again but I think there was a thread on here a while back saying that there was going to be no model changes this year.
  • I was under the impression they wouldn't budge on the £1000 (the cycle to work scheme hotline confirmed)
But I went into the store and they guy confirmed I can pay cash over the £1000! Great news!

I might just hold on until December and if there are no price drops then, I'll go for it...
My letter of collection also give me £100 of free accessories which is nice!!

Another unrelated question...I'm 6ft tall...which size should I go for (Medium or Large)?
Annoyingly my local halfords won't let me take it out into the carpark for a ride so it's difficult to decide (probably because the store is in Brixton....)
  • I'm the same height as you & went for the L. also legs /arms are in proportion, previously I had a Willier L. but the b/man felt slightly larger & more comfortable. You can always change stem size etc. at a later date but you must change the brake blocks as soon as poss. (mine were u/s, no stop power & too hard for the rims) I fitted salmon koolstop & the Tektro brakes were okay.

If they are expecting you to part with serious cash for a bike tell them you either get to ride it first, or you will take your business elsewhere. You need to know if the saddle is right. If the reach is ok. If the gears are to your liking, These are all important details that need a ride to sort out, as they will have to adjust or change to make the bike right for you.
