Hi Y'all,
I am very much a budget road cyclist riding a standard Giant defy 3 and I need to get my self sorted for winter.
Ive had a look at the Asos thread and can not justify spending that much money so what would you recommend and what do I need?
Im not talking Aldi's own brand but something good but cheap, I really dont care how it looks or how other cyclist judge me I just want to be able to carry on through winter and not get disheartened
All advice, good or bad will be appreciated,
Dave

Hi Dave you can get some good functional winter gear from the DHB or Altura range at wiggle or ribble etc.
You only really need winter/thermal legs and a long sleeved jersey.
If you plan to cycle in the heavy raid then you need a waterproof jacket and legs, a pair of waterproof gloves, and a pair of waterproof overshoes.
If it "brass monkeys" then you can invest in some thermal socks, a neck warmer and a thermal/winter cap which can be worn under a helmet and covers the ears0 -
Try Tenn Outdoor Sport as well. Cheap, well made and can be bought on Amazon easy enough. Have bought several pieces from them and im pleased with all of the items. The winter jacket is great. Here you go, various colours available.

Each to their own of course but I bought a supposedly breathable jacket from Tenn and it was the most boil-in-the-bag thing I have ever worn since my first Kagool way back at School. Very much not impressed with Tenn and +1 for dhb For the price its very very good kit.0 -
Thanks for the advice guys, I will take a look tomorrow :-)0

My kit comes from all over the place. Some rapha and assos and then the more normal kit down to wiggle and dhb and then I do have some aldi kit too.
Aldi make some nice wind proof jackets and their rain jackets are good too. Their base layers are also excellent.
It really pays to look around.0 -
+1 for DHB. I've had a few bits and it's generally decent.
My advice would be to look at layering your clothes. I was surprised last winter at how I usually didn't need a jacket when cycling. Instead, I was in a gilet, SS jersey and armwarmers. Or a long sleeve jersey.
Same on the bottom half. Always preferred knee warmers to 3/4 bibs or tights.
I've been looking at Rose Bikes for my n+1 and had a quick scan through their clothing. Looks really good value.

Oh the only negative review out of 30+ people for that jacket was you was it? As you say, each to their own.
I'd rather be hot that freezing cold in winter, 25yrs riding a motorbike in winter taught me that.
I bought a few DHB jerseys and shorts, weren't impressed, overated and fell apart on me like a chocolate teapot.
See its all relative.0 -
Hi all.
I chose some kit from Tenn in the end, I ordered the Bib front winter cycling leggings, a pair of overshoes and the windproof windblock roubaix jacket.
All this for about £60 so I will be interested to see how they perform, I will let you know!
Anything has to be better than what im wearing at the minute!!0 -
I got my tights from Lillywhites (Sports Direct). They got a lot of slating on here but £9 for tights I am fine with them. They won't last but have done at least 10 outings and washes and still seem fine. Plus some Snowbee thermals with breathable micro fleece for £20 (go under my fishing waders as well) and I am toasty fine.
Top layer I tend to go more expensive as it is where I notice the real difference for comfort.0
