Q/R Skewer Question

[I suspect I already know the answer to this, but I`ll ask anyway]
When cleaning the bike I noticed that on the nut style end of the rear Q/R skewer the plastic appears to be cracked. I can't think how this happened, unless it has been tightened a little too much when clamped in the turbo trainer ...
Anyway, my question is does this really matter that much ? [it appears to just be a plastic cover anyway].
(It's a Shimano 105 Q/R skewer, as per photo here : http://www.bikeman.com/QR5703.html)

Not really it just a cover but then making adjustment to the clamping force can become tricky iof the cover starts slipping.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0
