Can't go wrong with a saris bones. It should lift the bike high enough to avoid obstructing the lights and number plate.

I've used this with no problems

+1 for the Saris Bones, you can get it for either 2 or 3 bikes and it will fit your convertible, a hatch, estate, MPV...
What I really like about it is that you can put it on and off bikes one after the other because all you are doing is putting the legs at different angles. Also it is kind to bike frames. I compare this with the typical metal racks I used to use which were a real pain or you found that you did not have the right accessories with you at the time, they were back in the box because they fitted a different vehicle.
Also, that the Bones folds up and goes in your boot and it doesn't scratch your car in the way I found previous racks did.
Once you have your bikes on the Bones bear in mind they can still swing so I like to support the bottom bracket with a cable tie, then another from frame/chainset around the front wheel to stop the bars turning and the front wheel from spinning.0
