Frame polishing

I have taken the decals off my carbon road bike frame and I'm left with the outline of the decals. Any suggestions how to get rid of this and polish my frame in the process. I considered having the frame painted but can't find a local painter in Glasgow.

Thanks in advance.

  • I would have thought that a good car polish would remove any decal marks

Firstly, depends on whether the decals were under or over a laquer - if the former, you'll need to get the frame rubbed down and a new lacquer applied. If over the lacquer, you may need to use a solvent to remove any adhesive residue first and then first try a car polish. If that doesn't work, try a cutting compound like T-Cut which is a bit more aggressive
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Oh, the world would be a better place if we worried less about this sort of thing. Besides, he's only devalued the monetary value of the frameset. The functional value is exactly the same!

Which only matters if he wants to sell it...

FWIW...this frame has sat in my garage for a couple of years and will now be a winter/training bike. It was covered in decals all applied over the lacquer.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
