How do I fit this? topcap
Hi all, having some trouble getting tension through the forks etc on my bike so bought a new topcap assy as the std one seems pretty poor, I've bought this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221032883586? ... 1439.l2649
So I have the old one out but how do I fit this one, is it just a case of hammering it in?
Thanks

That's a star nut, so you need a setting tool. You could take it to the local bike shop. Shouldn't cost more than a couple of quid. You do have an aluminiun fork steerer as it is not suitable for carbon.0

This may sound obvious but you can use the existing one and just replace the top part.
Also you do know that the spacers or top part of the stem must be higher that the head tube to allow the tightening?0 -
No my forks are carbon..... so this is unsuitable? it does have an existing one but it seems to slide loose inside the forks letting play back into the assy?
Ok I've had a little read and the star nut seems to be a NO NO in carbon, so back to using the old one (compression plug) is there anyway of getting it to fix/grip better to the inside in the steererS-Works Tarmac Disc Di2 2017

If you have full carbon forks then you need an expander bung.
If you have an aluminium steerer then you can use a star nut.
As for getting it to grip better you could try some carbon assembly paste.***** Pro Tour Pundit Champion 2020, 2018, 2017 & 2011 *****0
