Headset buggered ?
Hello All,
Just a question regarding the headset on my commuter.
its a cane creek aheadset that came with the bike.
I thought id remove the stem and check the steerer as I like to do every so often, and upon loosening the stem bolts and removing the top cap etc noticed that this didnt result in any play being present in the headset.
so I checked the steerer placed the stem back etc etc but when tightening the top cap its like it has no affect on the pre-load of the bearings . I suppose the good news is that its not too tight and its not too loose so I nipped the top cap up slightly then alternated the tightening of the stem bolts etc and left it.
The wheel moves freely when lifting the frame to either side (accounting for cable restrictions) and rocking the bike with the front brake on results in no movement in the headset but dont know whats going on ?.

Sometimes you have to tap the steerer on the side to release the bearings.Pegoretti
