Hi,

My housemates bike got KO'd a while ago and its looking like with the insurance money he will be collecting he'll be getting a spanking new bike than fixing his old one - which suits me nicely!

I have a Bianchi Nirone 7 (2011) with Sora groupset, and his is a Giant OCR 1 (2007/08 I think..) but with 105 groupset.

Is it possible/easy job to strip off the 105 parts and put them on my bike? Are there any good guides for this?

Looking forward to answers & sorry in advance for any ignorance.

Thanks!

Everything should switch straight across, assuming the bottom bracket and front mech are the same.

BB shell could be a different width, or different threading (English or Italian) and front mech could be band-on or braze on.

Not much you can do if your BB shell is incompatible - just by a new compatible one.

If both front mechs are braze-on or the same diameter seat tubes, then no issue.

If yours is braze-on and his is band on, then you just check the diameter again.

If yours is band-on and his is braze-on, you can buy adaptors (which is a band with a screw hole to fix the mech to) - but many of those seem ridiculously close to the cost of a new front mech.

Either way - those are the two big ones to check.

Assuming you can remove the braze-on - on my Giant Defy the braze-on is bolted on so you could remove it and put a band on over the top. If it's welded on, then you'll probably find the braze-on is right in the way of where you want to put the band!!
