Got my eye on some bib longs for winter, they look good and with BC discount from Wiggle, good value!
Has anyone tried any yet? They also do some nice looking leg/arm warmers.

I use the Pace Roubaix, both the longs and shorts (last years model) and they are fine for keeping me warm - i used them all last winter on morning commutes of an Hour in >0 degrees and I was fine

I will probably be looking to get some more shortly.

  • Cheers rubertoe - the Pace range is eol, replaced by the Vaeon. I was going to see if I could get some Pace ones still but all the sizes seem to have gone now, so I'm wondering if anyone has the new Vaeon stuff. I think I'll order their bib tights based on the superbness of the previous Pace ones, if anything they look like an improved design.
    Cheers!

If you do please post how they are as I am going to have to replace mine too and fancy sticking with dhb cause I know I get on ok with the pad when it gets colder as they are just about done!
  • I ordered some vaeon roubaix tights on Sunday so they'll be sat waiting for me on Friday when I get home from holiday. I'll give them a little test as soon as I can

Very warm and padding is excellent.

Heard good things about them, thinking of picking up some myself
  • I have a couple of pairs of the Pace Roubaix longs and they are great for keeping you warm, but it's all a bit tight around the knackers and the ankle zip could be annoying, so I'm glad to see they've brought out an alternative. It does look like the zip is the same, though. That pad looks like the same on my Aeron Pro shorts, and if so it's really comfy.
  • I have the pace super roubaix and they are nice and toasty even down to -6 (as cold as i cycled in last year). However like johnny trousers says the zip on the leg can be very annoying - it either rubs against my skin making it raw on a long ride (even if i am wearing thick winter socks) or unzips itself. Pretty poor design, and it is disappointing they havent changed the zip placement in the new range, because other than that they are spot on.
  • I like them very much. The tights are warm, comfy and have excellent pads. Yes, that zip is annoying.

The shorts mind. I DO like them, but, dunno, they seem an odd fit. Have to say I generally use Assos and find their Mille stuff (including the T.607 range) sublime. The DHB roubaxi shorts are warm but just seem really odd fitting.

Very iinteresting thanks for the link - looks like the same company make the chamois for dhb and ASSOS - so how different is the ASSOS pad from the dhb one(s) - anyone know it isn't clear from either this site, WIGGLE or ASSOS sites who uses what pad as they seem to use different names for them on each.

Look at the description tab on the DHB shorts you're looking at, there's a little matrix of which shorts use which pad. You then just look at the same named pad on the Cytech site, Tour and Giro are the ones Wiggle use in their mid range and top end shorts and tights, IIRC.

I used the info on the Cytech site to find a pad that's designed to be worn for 4+ hours and alleviates pressure on the perineum area. I then just searched for bibs that use the same pad, which was difficult as not all manufactures advertise the fact they use a pad made elsewhere by someone else. I eventually found the Solo RT bib shorts on Wiggle. The pad looked like it was good quality but I returned the shorts as they were terrible in terms of fit and overall quality, nowhere near what I'd expect for almost £100. Shame I never got to see what the pad was like.

I then decided to see what all the fuss about the Assos Uno's was about. The pad is amazing, what others describe as nappy like, I think is pure comfort especially on my longer rides. Assos refer to the pad as the S5 which appears to be a collaboration between Assos and Cytech, not sure if it's exclusive to Assos. There's also a dimpled fabric insert over the pad itself so it's less obvious when comparing to the other pads Cytech make. Could this just be hiding a 'standard' Cytech pad that can be bought on other shorts? Not sure, but it's comfy.

You obviosly have to be wary marketing hype and spin.

After owning some some good quality/value mid-range shorts from DHB and Craft I'd say they are just as good as the Uno's but the Uno's justify their reputation and higher price when you get past the 3 hr mark. Which for me is money well spent.

Sorry, hope I haven't gone too far off topic

  • Fab Jordan many thanks and I would still right on topic as it concerns how dhb vaeons are
  • Another thing worth considering when buying DHB is that their consistency isn't always spot on. I have 3 pairs of their Aeron Pro shorts, two of which fit brilliantly, but one which feels a little not-quite-right. If you try a pair that you don't like, maybe try a swap before going for a refund.

I quite fancy them too for the better chamois mainly - do you know when they will be available?
  • Just picked them up from the post office and I am very impressed. I have some pace bib tights which are ok but these are much more comfortable and I'm sure they'll keep the cold out nicely. It also seems they've moved the ankle zip slightly to the side so that it's not resting on the Achilles. They also fit much better then my pace ones but that's more to do with the fact I ordered small instead of a medium, I'm 5"11 and 73kg
Would like to see what the reviews of the vaeon zeros are like for the really cold days

any comments on the pad in the new ones?

I've always found the pace pad pretty much a thin cheapo thing and would like something a little more cushioned for long rides.

  • It definately feels thicker and more comfortable than the one used in the pace stuff. I was hoping it was a bit better quality for the same reasons you have said.

Considering a pair of these too. I'm 5"8 and 30"-31" inside leg, weigh about 70kg. I was thinking a medium but after seeing your post not too sure now.

Had some small DHB bib shorts and the pad did not seem big enough i.e barely went round from front to back. Also my other bibs have quite a big pad which I prefer, is the pad a sufficient size in the small?
  • I'd definitely go for the small size as I have some medium bibs and they're just baggy around the knees and thighs which isn't comfortable on longer rides.

The pad on the roubaix is definitely bigger and more comfortable than the ones I've had in my pace shorts/tights.

I bought a pair of the DHB Vaeon Roubaix bib tights and Wiggle kindly sent me the reflex versions  I'm 6' tall and 13.5 stone and the large is fine. Admittedly I haven't tried them yet on ride but they do ft very well and the quality is very good.

Isn't the Reflex one model down from the Roubaix in terms of the pad style? (i.e. 'Race' instead of 'Giro')

Zero is the one up from Roubaix, but the range isn't on the site yet I don't think.

The Reflex Roubaix according to the description is basically the same bib as the Roubaix with some reflective strips and is a bit more expensive.

Just received my bibs in the post today thanks to a quick delivery from Wiggle! An that's standard delivery!

Just popped them on an the fit is excellent on initial impression not baggy not too tight just right and fitted. The pad I'm pleased to say is of a decent thickness and is of decent size something I was a little worried about.

Just compared the thickness of the pad to other various shorts I have and these are not far behind some of my other rather expensive pairs. You should see the difference between these and some of my old DHB shorts. The pad in those by comparison is night and day!

I've not tested these yet so just initial impressions out the packet. However getting out for a good 100+ mile ride tomorrow and I shall I would imagine know these tights intimately enough by then to give a better opinion.

Yeah the reflex models use the race pad and the roubaix use the giro pad.
I can't see how a lower quality pad and a bit of reflective strip cost Over a tenner more
  • Considering ordering a pair of these after freezing my knackers off this morning.

Are they a lot better than the funkier thermal bib tight which is about a tender cheaper from Merlin ?

Ok so Saturday did a 101 miles in these though Lancashire Cumbria and North Yorkshire. Needless to say this consisted of hilly rough ball buster roads.

It was sunny for once with hardly no wind. Set off early morning however and was about 6 degrees for first hour or two, with highs of about 12-14 degrees.

First of all if a piece of kit is below par I will not make excuses or allowances for it I'd rather just not use it and replace it.

I'm very impressed so far with these, very comfortable. Coming from myself this is something as had comfort/saddle sore problems in the past with other bibs.

There was no movement issues i.e the pad wasn't sliding about. TBH I did not notice they were there and my ass was not sore at any point.

No quality issues, perfect out the packaging no loose stitching and they came out the wash as new. Wore them today again for a 50 miler, again no issues with comfort nor with washing.

On my experience with these bibs so far I'd recomend them, I feel assured they will stand the test of time. That said even if they only last 2 winters, at £50 I'd take that.
  • I'm thinking of ordering a pair of these but wanted advice on which size I should get.
I'm 6 feet tall, 32 inch waist and about 12 and a half stone.

Not sure if I should get a medium or a large???

    Thanks in advance
