I'm on the lookout for a nice, warm, not too expensive winter cycling jersey for the forthcoming autum months, anybody got any suggestions what to get, or what to avoid please?

I would highly recommend a Castelli fusione, if still available. I usually wear this and a base layer unless it goes below freezing .
  • I used the dhb momentum jersey last winter. Cheap and when coupled with a base layer keeps you nice and warm without getting you overly hot underneath.

Base layer: Craft Zero, very good but but but, the thermal 'Crane Sports' base layer Aldi sell is absolutely brilliant, and not just for the money. If you can get them in your local store then go for it. Approx £10 IIRC.

LS Jersey: Mavic Espoir - lots of discounts on these, I think I paid £30 for mine. Full zip, three rear pockets, one smaller zip pocket. Comfortable, brushed inner fabric and warm enough for Autumn and Spring rides. The sleeves and cuffs are also cut to cover your gloves and not ride up your arms. With a base layer and a gilet this covers me for all the but the coldest days.

When it gets really cold, I just use a softshell jacket (Mavic Equipe) and the Aldi/Craft base layers.

Westbrooks, Winstanleys, and McConveys usually sell heavily discounted Mavic clothing. I've ordered from all three stores and service was brilliant.
