My new Cannondale Caad 8 105 is arriving, with luck tomorrow. But it comes without pedals.
So my question is:
What pedals would you recommend for a 49 year old leisure cyclist.I am not looking for out and out speed but something comfortable and fitting with the bike mentioned.

Speedplay Zeros every time - best for the knees, double sided entry and great power transfer - all you could want and just pick the colour that matches.0

Thanks for those choices but a quick Google at them brings up high prices,a bit much right now i`m afraid. Are there some cheaper options i could have, and maybe in the new year i can upgrade?
Having had a look at other pedals it is so bewildering.I always thought that pedals looked mostly the same. All the ones i now see have nuts and bolts and bits and bobs on them i dont know how to start.
The old days of cycling has certainly moved on apace.Cannondale CAAD 8 105

You don't say what your budget is so it is hard to say what is best. However i go with the previous poster on the speedplay zero's. While the stainless one's are generally £130 and the cheaper version about£100 the cheapest place i have found is here http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/pp/road-t ... d/speepeda . If that is still too much let us know what the budget is

Shimano SPD-SL pedals will do you fine, with yellow cleats as they give the most float.
They do all ranges (105, Ultegra etc) but the entry level ones are good enough (around £30 - £40)
Halfords do them but you will normally get cheaper on line.

Speedplays are indeed a bit more expensive but way cheaper than knee replacements!
Joking aside they may be expensive but IME if you grease them every now and again (easy peasy) they seem to last for ever - my pedals are way over £4k miles with no sign of problems and I have cleats the same that still work fine.0 -
I didnt mention a budget i know.To be honest i didnt realise they were so expensive so never actually considered the price as a problem.I suppose £40 quid for now,as money is tight i can always upgrade later in the new year but i need something now to get me on the way.Cannondale CAAD 8 105

No shoes sorry.I am new to proper road cycling so just learning right now.For the moment i just want to get out and ride, nothing flash but to enjoy the cycling.I dont have any gear whatsoever so i need to watch me budget, hence the low limits. While i am new i just need the basics to get me going. Thanks for the advice.Cannondale CAAD 8 105

All the above mentioned pedals need proper cycling shoes.
Just buy the cheapest basic pedals with toe clips, something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004XVQ3E4 you can use them with trainers, then when you've got the spare cash get some proper shoes and pedals.........0 -
They will do thanks Flasher.
Like is said earlier i will upgrade in the new year when i have a bit of spare cash. All my money now has gone on the new bike so very little left over.I just need to get on the road and start enjoying cycling once again,as a mountain bike rider i need to feel the thrill of the open road i used to do when i was a young chap.Cannondale CAAD 8 105
