Garmin 800 vs 500

I want to upload routes to cycle computer before my ride (from GPX files for example). I want the computer to tell me if I have deviated from the route and to show me when to turn. I don't need to see roads etc while on the ride, just the direction i should be going in. If I get REALLY lost I am prepared to rely on my iphone on which I have an app with some preloaded maps (in case I have no 3g).

Am I right in saying that the 500 can do what I want?

Yeah kinda but it's not pretty. Just tells you your off course and gives you a vague line no roads.

Yes - but a 200 can do that too as can a Bryton 35 or 40 all for less money than a 500.
    Faster than a tent.......

I would like cadence - the 200 can't do that can it?

I already use a forerunner 210 and would like to continue to use Garmin Connect for collecting data hence the Garmin preference. Thanks for the other suggestions though.

I was just wondering if the mapping function was a bit wasted on me with google maps, strava, etc to work out routes ahead of the ride. I generally know where I want to ride before I head out and then it's a case of just sticking to that route. Would the 800 still be worthwhile for this or can i get what i need from the 500?
