Carbon seatpost

A friend of a friend asked me if carbon seatposts make a difference to road comfort over a stock alu seatpost, as he is looking to upgrade.
I've never ridden with a carbon post so cant comment, but i know a lot of people who have (you lot!) so can anyone give me some advice i can pass on. I dont want to spout the marketing bull from carbon seatpost makers to him, so would rather hear from anyone who has swapped alu for carbon and wether it made a difference? pros and cons etc
thanks in advance.

I've not noticed any difference apart from the carbon one is lighter and looks nicer 8)2019 Ribble CGR SL

depends on the respective posts how much difference there is
if it's a really chunky cf post, then a lightweigth alloy one might be comfier, a light cf post is going to be a bit comfier than a chunky alloy one
it's probably not going to be a huge difference in most cases
i've got two cf posts, the lighter one is more comfy than the alloy, the heavier cf one rides about the samemy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0
