  • This tells you how to clean and refresh the lube in your freehub without completely taking it apart. http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/tech/fix ... ix_freehub Usually this is all you need to make it work like new but sometimes pawls and bearings break meaning complete disassembly. Use something like a very thick gear oil for lube. Any thinner, such as motor oil or chain lube will just seep out over time. Any thicker and the pawl springs may not be strong enough to engage through a heavier lube such as grease.

If it uses cartridge bearings then it's not a Shimano hub; they only use conventional cup-and-cone adjustable bearings. You need to find out what your hub make and model is to find out exactly how it is supposed to work.

This is the type of thing if you want too replace.

They are called "freehub bodies" if you want to try a search for cheaper.
  • What hub is it. You wioll need the correct free hub body. Depending on the frehub body, in some of them the bearings are replaceable, some they are not.

that looks exactly the same as the one i took off

i initially thought it was the bearings but you only really hear any noise now when you freewheel,
    when pedaling its silent,

its a shimano hub and cup and cone bearings, 9 speed cassette.

will this be the right one i need ??

how do i confirm the model of shimano of hub on my bike..

will probably need to replace the ale bar also as i saw it was ever so slightly bent

    cheers

shimano make many hubs look for the part number.

and it taking a shimano freebody does not make it a shimano hub.

  • i can see the shimano in big letters on the hub,,!!!!!!!

il also now see its a tiagra, but no model numbers,, is this enough info to confidently buy the right freehub ???
