Hi,

Currently have a defy 0 with stock Giant P-R2 wheels. I have been offered a set of Easton EA50 aero wheels equipped with Schwalbe Ultremo tyres for good money. The main reasons I am interested is that they look very bling in comparison to my stock wheels, also as I am a big lump  and according to the Easton website they dont have a weight limit and are suitable for touring / cyclocross, and are still 150g lighter than my current wheels, it seems like it might be a worthwhile upgrade as I live in constant fear of my stock wheels buckling at 40mph and me doing a Tom Daley over the bars. Question is, am i being blinded By bling and wasting my money, or is it a worthwhile upgrade?

Cheers! :D
My biggest fear is that should I crash, burn and die, my Wife would sell my stuff based upon what I told her I paid for it.

  • Blinded by bling? Bling is the only REAL reason to "upgrade" anything.

Get the wheels and if your other half asks just say NP said it was ok!
  • Don't go anywhere near EA50s!!!!

Refitting a tyre after a puncture repair is an absolute nightmare and I shredded countless tubes and shed too many tears when I used to have a set. The spokes tend to go a little too easily too if you're worried about the potential for doing a Tom Daley.

There was a thread here not so long ago about Easton wheels and the general consensus seems to be they are poor quality.

Even assuming one spoke pops in your wheels, that is not a dangerous accident... Fear not
If you want bling and a robust set, save for the cosmic
