I want to split the chain on my bike and fit a Wippermann Connex chain link, do i have to remove a certain chain link or will it not matter?

You can split chains at an innie or an outy.
Powerlinks require both ends to be innies.

If you cut the chain one link too short at an outy, you have to get the innie back in place. Keep some spare links handy from a new chain for when you screw up. Putting a single link back is tricky because it wobbles around in the tool.

    Measure twice, cut once.
  • The chain is already on the bike, i want to fit the link to make it easier to remove the chain for cleaning it.

  • I did mine a few weeks ago.

used the standard method of checking KMC's website, reading the packet and looking it up on youtube.

I can't remember how it did it though

look for the pin that was used to join the chain in the first place (really you could do it on any pin, but it's not unknown for joining pins to have been fitted poorly, so may as well take it out)

    remove it

also remove the pin at the other end of the same outer plates

    now fit the link
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
  • How do i identify the the joining pin?
