+1 got some from him last week 38mm carbon excellent did 100miler on sunday no issues and it was wet .
went out on my regular route tonight, beat all my PB's on strava .and actually prefer than 50mm as they dont get blown about in the wind.
had mavic cosmic slr's before these are better wheels and half the price ,never buying factory built again ,it took a long time for me to learn that lesson sorry should have listened to napoleon and ugo.last month wilier gt -this month ? bh rc10 -
I bought some Campag Bullet Ultra's last week and have only ridden them for 50 miles, but I swear out of all the 50mm wheels that I have that these are the most comfortable wheels that I have ever ridden along with Michelin Pro 4's.
£874 Bullets from Shiny Bikes and although they don't mention that they are USB bearings, they are, as it was confirmed on the phone and on the invoice.
For those that would prefer Fulcrums they do them as the Red Wind XLR 50mm both at the same weight (1590g), both Campag and Fulcrum come with a dark label and there is an option of Steel, USB or Cult Bearings
£989 Fulcrums from Shiny Bikes and they are the same wheel!!!0 -
What do people think to the Dura Ace 7900 50mm Carbon Clinchers?
Is it a better option to go for hand built wheels than factory wheels?0 -
The gigantex carbon clinchers at wheelsmith with some good hubs and CX rays would be perfect.Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching

Can I be so brash as to ask how much - I was about to pull the trigger on some Mavic SL's until I saw Nap's comment on another thread about wheelsmith.Kuota Kharma Race [Dry/Sunny]

Wheels came in at £677 with brake pads and lightweight skewers. i had built with cx ray spokes (black) novatec hubs and red alloy nipples ,Bargain and they only took a week to be built. they look and ride fantastic , went out last night ,and no word of a lie, broke all my PB's on strava and gained 2 top 10 kom's ,i wasnt pushing any harder so the wheels must have something to do with it Honestly.last month wilier gt -this month ? bh rc10

Did you specifically ask for colured alloy nipples or Derek specs alloy nipples by default?left the forum March 20230 -

Just seen some "Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR Clinchers" at my LBS for £1000 - Are these good wheels?
Look very nice all stealth.0 -
Supra wheels. I believe Merlin are UK stockists, but those Wheelsmith sets do look the biz.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0

If what you are looking for is a wheel that looks the par, with massive logo which induce respect from fellow riders, then yes, it is the perfect wheel.
If instead you want deep carbon wheels for racing, then no, it's not value for money.
Generally speaking Mavic hubs are good quality, which is a good place to start.
You can get handbuilts from Wheelsmith, as advised, but make sure you choose quality hubs, rather than the lightest junk and make sure you select brass nipples instead of coloured alloy ones... in essence ask Derek for something "well built" rather than the lightest, trendiest set he can make.left the forum March 20230 -

From Cycle Logic?! Had a long conversation with Steve about the 2013 Mavic wheels that have just arrived. Very tempting...FCN 3 / 40 -
from anywhere, crash replacement warranty is surely a must on race wheels worth that much money.0

Can anyone tell me more about the "gigantex" rims please.
Are they foam filled like some of the cheap "chinese carbon wheels" people are buying on here?
Are they strong?
And at the moment I'm currently using DA 7850 CL24 wheels with an aluminum braking surface, is it possible to get brake pads to use on both aluminum & carbon wheels?
Thanks.0 -
Foam filled like 'cheap' Mavic Cosmic Carbone Ultimates?
Gigantex rims are very good quality.
Swissstop yellows can be used on both but they will still pick up burrs from the aluminium...Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching
