Chain Wear

Just bought myself a chain checker and checked my chain. Its wear is between 0.75% and 1%.

This is apparently the time to replace said chain.

Am I correct in thinking that the cassette and chainrings will work fine with a brand new chain? Not skip or jump at all?

Depends how worn they are, but if they were all put on together, then is likely will be ok. Sometimes takes a ride to bed in.
  • Yeah, i forgot to say that they're all the same age.

How long should a chain typically last say, if I cycle 100 miles a week? It'll be a 9 speed one if that makes a difference
Which chain would you recommend? Currently it's a standard PC991 but there are also two more expensive versions of the 991, with hollow pins and things. There's also the PC971 which is a bit cheaper.

Is there a noticeable difference in lifespan and shifting quality with a more expensive chain?

    Apologies for about eight questions.

Generally cheaper ones last as long or longer because they are chunkier. Try KMC.
