Replacing shimano hubs cups

Hey guys,

So I recently stripped down my shimano M475 hub to at first replace the freehub but then read that you can knock out the cup on the NDS and replace that as well. I have replaced the freehub with a M525 one and have knocked out the cups on the old hub but am having issues knocking in the new cup onto the hub. Is there any secret tips or tricks to get the cup in straight to the hub? Right now I am knocking it in with a 21mm socket, is this the best way?

start it of with a hammer and when flush with the hub find a socket that suits and then bray the crap out of it.

  • Thanks Nick, will knock it out again and tap it in until flush then take the socket to it. Actually quite enjoyable getting some shed time stripping all this down! Thank god for owning a vice is all I can say though!
