Dry chain lube

I'd like to buy some chain lube for my road bike. There seem to be a huge number of varieties of the stuff - I'm confused :( Any recommendations for one that works OK (bearing in mind that the biggest factor slowing me down is the lump of meat on top of the bike) and won't break the bank?

Was using spray-on from poundland on previous bike, but with a nicer bike it somehow seems worth getting 'proper' lube...

    Really impressed with this stuff

Found the finish line stuff awful (tried a few variants), tried a cheapo from LBS and then bought this stuff and it's another league. I never thought I'd get this excited over chain oil but after faffing with the others I'm really impressed.
Got some Fenwicks Stealth which is supposed to be the best out there and haven't bothered to try it I'm so happy with the Morgan Blue stuff.
I'm gonna get another while it's in on sale....

That Morgan blue stuff looks like a wet lube to me, not dry ....

I'd recommend a wax based lube - I have been using White Lightning "Clean Ride" this year and it has been excellent. Does exactly what it says on the tin, and runs smooth with no mess in wet or dry conditions.

I would recommend that you get your current chain EXTREMELY clean before you apply this though. Take it off and soak it in degreaser to get all the old lube out, then wash and dry thoroughly before applying the wax.

I use Finish Line Dry Teflon lube. It works really well and lasts for ages.
    More problems but still living....

I have tried most of them tbh, wet and dry lubes including squirt, chain-l no 5, pedros synlube, finish line etc. I've come to the conclusion I don't like a dry lube lol, so my lube of preference is Rock n Roll Gold, even though you have to reapply often, it's still good stuff imo.

I prefer this stuff to wax-based lubes:

Was looking for Fenwicks Stealth lube locally but couldn't find any and got this. Very good, though I'm going to try the Stealth stuff next:

I like the Rock n Roll stuff too, but the blue one. Never tried the gold.

Clean chain , apply Rock n Roll, spin the pedals backwards for 5-10 seconds and then wipe the chain clean. Sorted.

Thanks - will try one or two of these. Also, there's still grease on the chain from when I had the new one put on (a few weeks ago, but has well gone under 100km since then - went on holiday straight after). No need to lube while there's still grease on it?

That grease is supposedly better than lube - but I find it a cr4p magnet on some chains.

As much as I like the idea of dry lube, I have never got on with it, just tried for the last time White Lightning, looks better but never runs as quiet or smooth as with Muc Off wet lube.

Maybe Muc Off dry lube might be better?

Thanks - ordered the Muc Off and Morgan Blue, to give me a couple to play with. Will try other suggestions if needed...

Possibly the worst cycling product I have ever purchased is finish like wax chain lube, fine for 20 miles, after 40 miles the chain starts squeaking, after 60 miles, the wax lube has fallen off and the noise from the chain drives you crazy...avoid!

I've got white lightning at the moment, and don't find it particularly good. I also find I waste three times as much as I actually use.
I'm going back to soaking the chain in an oil bath when this runs out.

Depends if you clean your chain properly first. I've been using it for years on 60mile + rides and never had an issue.

Wax lube has been great for me as well. Multiple sportives from 50 to 100 miles this summer and no problems whatsoever. Drivetrain runs beautifully smoothly and doesn't attract dirt and crap like oil based lubes do. As mentioned above, you do need to have a very clean chain the first time you apply it, or the existing oil will get in the way.

Oh - and bike maintenance is a dream as you don't get black oily shite on your hands any more. I have been freed from the tyranny of oil based lubes!

Chain still not covered in cr4p yet :) Any easy way to tell when chain has 'enough' lube on it, though - there's still grease on the chain etc. when you touch it, but seems a touch less than before...
