no doubt been asked before, however i cant see any thread specifically so excuse the possible noob question.
what is the reason/differences on all rear sus designs and what characteristics do each type of design have other than travel? ie top tube mounted vs down tube mounted etc.
some of the bikes ive been looking at have ridiculously cool sus setups, that look great, while others look relatively simple and the only thing i can see thats majorly different is the amount of travel they offer.

the mounting position is not relavant. where the pivots are is.
for some it is due to money and not wanting to pay to use a design.
otherwise most makers of anything special have their info on their webby.
