Closely fllowed by the 'rookie ring' behind the rear sprockets!
Looks nice, if you want a cover for the LH shifter that appears missing I may well have a spare - PM me.
Crank(s) should be easy to find, most people have some spares lying around (choice of three here!), try putting sme wtds in the calssifieds, most what you need is available quite cheap now.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

Do you mean one of those cages that protects the deraileur? If so, that ain't one, it's a loop of cable.Looks nice, if you want a cover for the LH shifter that appears missing I may well have a spare - PM me.Crank(s) should be easy to find, most people have some spares lying around (choice of three here!), try putting sme wtds in the calssifieds, most what you need is available quite cheap now.
Thanks for the input, will post further updates as things progress...0 -
The 'rookie ring' is the plastic disc between the sprockets and spokes....looks like you have one still in the photo!
OK fair plays, its one of the things I wouldn't throw away as I know someone someday will need it, mind I have far too much stuff like that so have a desire to give some away whenever I can!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

Ah - thanks for the explanation. Actually I noticed the other day that the offending article is perished, so it would have probably come off when I change the cassette anyway. What's the theory behind it in the first place?0 -
Its supposed to protect the spokes if the chain overshifts into the wheel. They have 3 problems No1 they dont work as intended, No2 they collect crud and are almost imposible to clean, No3 if the chain gets jammed up against the ring there is a good chance you have to break the chain to untangle it. Oh and they look stupid and mark you as a newbieFig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0

I think you might have missed out of few posts there, Dan, but thanks for the thought.0

New cassette installed tonight does indeed seem to have sorted out the skipping chain issue.
Reflectors and "rookie ring" removed to appease the style gods (not that you'd see the latter behind the new 34-tooth sprocket)
...Unfortunately, I fear I may be eternally damned for the new saddle instead  :

Rest of the bike is looking good though!
I'll have to ad a pic of my Daughters Scott for comparison, similar model frame (Cables under top tube and mounts for continuous outers and hyraulic brakes) just a size smaller.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Here you are, looks a bit different to yours!
Brief spec
Scott YZ frame repainted, Suntour XC60 forks, a Spesh Lardrock rear wheel wrapped in a Panracer XC Pro and Carrera DDM front wrapped in an Onza Dave, Clarkes CMD5 brakes, truvative X-flow crankset (left crank is Suntour), Scott seatpost and a Selle San Marco saddle, stem is DDG, bars generic, it runs a 9 speed cassette with an Acera rear mech, STX-RC front and Deore shifters.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
You've certainly upgraded a fair bit, haven't you? I think I'll let your daughter have that colour all to herself, though
This weekend I'm playing around with the front end of mine - replacing headset (FSA "The Pig"), Bars (Funn Fatboy 710mm), stem (adjustable jobbie to play around with position) and forks (RST delta pro - not much of an upgrade, I know, but they save me the best part of a kg, by my reckoning).
So far, I reckon I've spent £40 on just getting mine back in usable condition:
New cables, brake pads, noodles, grips, chain: £20
Used crankset and front wheel - £10
New 11-34T Acera cassette £10
plus this weekend's project/s will have cost me another £55 or so.
I think my front mech needs replacing, too, so that will be another job/expense
I'm fairly happy with what I've ended up with, and it's been a largely enjoyable experience. Now I just need to learn to ride the damn thing!0 -
Not really upgraded, we bought the bike as 'spares or repairs' (practically nothing original then) for my elder daughter, we built that up over time into quite a nice bike before she reframed it into a dirty jo frame, we then cleaned up this frame and I reframed her CBR into this and used a few better bits I had laying around like the forks and brakes (she had Promax on the CBR), the tyres came off freecycle and we put them on her old bike to do Cannock for the first time.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
