I recently changed the outer chain ring to a 52 from a 50, also changed the inner and centre same ratio -new cassette and chain - since then i've had problems with the chain not dropping to the inner - the qualified mechanic -adjusted the front mech - problem solved - no -now the chain fly's off the outer ring! been back to mechanic today - he thinks that possibly we should have changed the front mech - because the it changed to a 52? any ideas the front mech is a centaur triple

Almost sounds to me that the mechanic has not set the stop screws up correctly, if you put the bike into the outer ring on the front and highest (smallest) ring on the rear. If you then have a look at the front mech you should not have a big gap between the chain and edge of the mech, if there is a large gap then you will need to adjust the stop screw to not allow the chain to drop off.

just changing the rings you shouldnt have to change the mech, also check how high the mech itself is in comparison to the outer ring you should have a few mill's between the bottom of the mech and the chain rings.

    Regards

we brought the mech down today- it behaved on the way back- i have tried to adj the screws myself- and too be honest can't seem to see the mech move, cheers for reply
  • there will be two small phillips screws and you find that one will adjust for the low ring and one will adjust the high.
