seccond hand road bike and the levers are scuffed badly, I want to replace the main plastic housings, the bit the hoods go over I think Shimano call them brackets and the face plates but I'm not sure of the model number possibly a 6500 type have one button on each hood for flight deck.

    Thanks,

Shimano Techdocs was where I got the idea of changing the scratched parts from as it has the part no. and I was going to order the parts from petras but... I am still unsure of exactly which model number of levers I have. As there are parts compatibility tables on the exploded diagrams. Is the model no. not moulded somewhere on the levers? like it is on the mechs? :?

You've missed an i out of shimano in your link, takes you to an affiliate site

If the downshift paddles are grey they are 6500's

If they are black they are 6510's

Must be 6510's then, thanks Simon. I was thinking of getting spare whole shifters off ebay, but they go for quite a bit more than I want tied up on road bike spares.

New brackets and cover plates will suffice as the rest look fine.

    Y-6C8 98060 R.H. Bracket
    Y-6C8 98080 L.H. Bracket

I don't have the brake outer cable guides (Y-86B 90010) under my bar tape so might get a pair of them and the outer cable joint (Y-877 11000), fit blue hoods and blue bar tape then the bars and controls will be how I want them. I might also fit the Dura-Ace gear indicator while I'm on with it.

Thinking of ordering the RD-6500 GS conversion parts for the rear mech as I'm thinking of going from compact to triple unless an old Deore LX cage and spring fit... but I doubt it.

Pull back the rubber hood and the model number is on (moulded into) the black plastic body of the STI
    Yellow is the new Black.

Ahh, cheers. Thats why I couldnt find it before... It was hiding under the strip of bar tape that goes round the lever clamp.

    Shimano ST-6510.

Hopefully I can get the parts to make them look almost new 8)
