Campag gear skipping when shifting up issue

This is a strange one that hit me about a week ago out of the blue. When I'm about halfway up the cassette and want to shift up again I flick the thumb switch on my Veloce ergo and it immediately skips up two or three cogs so that I have to shift down again. It doesn't happen in the lower gears so I doubt it's the ergo lever itself. Any thoughts?

Cheers!

Is it the current Powershift Veloce lever (with the one-click thumb button) or the earlier Ultrashift lever that has the thumb ratchet lever that can jump down up to 5 sprockets in one go?

If it's the powershift version (or an even earlier escape version) then if it's jumping 3 sprockets I would think it must be the lever - for the cable to move that far. As its going down to the smaller cogs it sounds like its skipping over some of the ratchet teeth. Take the lever off of the bars and look up inside it to see the pulley wheel, ratchet and cable end socket - check for damage and see if the screw holding it together hasn't come loose.

Even if you have the ultrashift levers it could be the same thing - but also an issue with the thumb lever itself.
  • Thanks! It's Ultrashift. To be honest ergo lever maintenance is beyond me. I think you might be right, however, as it feels like the thumb button is not returning fully before the crazy hyper shift. I'll Get it to the LBS next week.

All parts are avialble but it may be easier to by a replacement shifter body and swap over the brake lever.

  • Cheers! From doing a little research online it does sound like I might need a shifter overhaul. I'll get it to my LBS tomorrow and hope they are comfortable with Campagnolo.
