Tektro Novela adjustment

Have Tektro Novela mech disc brakes on one of the kids bikes. Just put new pads in,re centered the caliper (losen and pull brake to centre) There seems to be a lot of play in the cable, the brake lever pulls back virtually to the handle bar. Guess its to do with the barrel adjustment but which one (at the brake or caliper) and what direction to rotate.
