hope c2 pad change

Hi, I have some old school c2's and wish to change the pads. The levers have the thumbwheel adjuster on the top of the reservoir, with the adjusters backed off as far as they go there is still not enough clearance to fit the new pads.I'm thinking I need to take a bit of fluid from the system so the pistons will retract further. Should I do this at the bleed nipple or from the reservoir. Or am I way off ?

Have you pushed the pistons back or just adjusted them?I don't do smileys.
