I went to LBS today and they had 2012 Orbea Onix 105 reduced at £1300 including bottle, bottle cage, pedals and saddle bag. Before that i had made my mind to get Boardman Team Carbon. I tried to find reviews but it seems no one has got Orbeas bike. So im not sure if its a better deal then Boardman Team Carbon which i can get for £998. Thnx

I got the 2011 onix 3 months ago for £1300 so yeah I'd say it was a decent deal. Really nice bike I love mine!
Lifetime warranty on the frame too...0 -

Yea i was told you get life time warranty on frame, The onix in LBS have mavic aksium wheels, 105 shifters but brakes r not shimano 105s. I forgot to ask which make they were. What brakes you have on your bike?0 -
The Onix is a nice frameset - I bought a very early 2010 model for £1100 so sounds like a very good deal to me. I also managed to get the rare (unpopular???) bronze/orange colour scheme! Built into a very enjoyable ride =
As it was when I bought it.
As she is now (but with different bars/stem)0 -
Some white bar tape and a white/red stripe saddle would make that bike look the business ...0

Had (got) a white Fizic Arione but changed it for the red (carbon) one. Never fancied white tape!!0 -
I was just looking on cycle surgery website. And they have Orbea Onix T105 2012 for £1400. It has full 105 including brakes and Mavic Kysrium wheels. But the one at my LBS has half 105 and Mavic aksium wheels. How is that possible same model bike two different specification?0
-
Orbeas come with multiple options for groupsets, handlebars, wheels etc. if you look on their website they've got quite a good thing that shows you the different set up choices. The bike shop will have built them to a certain spec but you can have another if you want (stock depending)0

Orbea is an established brand, more so than the likes of Cube, Canyon or Giant for that matter!
They have been making bikes for more than a 100 years.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to bikes. I've been on this forum for couple of weeks trying to get a.advice for a new bike. And I don't think I read anything abt orbea on here. It's always Giant, Trek or specialized.
Back to my question is this bike better than Boardman team carbon?0 -
better is a bit questionable. They will probably have different ride qualities and slightly different geometries. Best thing is to try them both even if it is for a ride around the car park to check which one you will like the most. The advantage of the Orbea is a lifetime warranty on the frame.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

There's more than the likes of Giant, Trek and Specialized thank heavens. Here is a useful list of bike manufacturers to help you choose. It's not very complete but it is a start

To the OP, if you take an interest in the TDF then you'll see the Eskatel Eskardi team riding in bright dayglo orange. It's a team made up of mainly Spanish riders(including the 2008 Olympic champion Samual Sanchez) They use Orbea bikes exclusively(being a Spanish/Basque brand)
I have been riding an Onix since 2008(it's a 2007 model) fitted with 105 parts which I have upgraded over the years. I still get comments by other riders as to whether it's a new bike or not, that's how good the frame is. The ride on my bike is quite sporty as it was based on their Orca race bike, more modern Onixs' have a focus on comfort but are still a good ride. A couple in my club have 2011/12 bikes and like them a lot.
The warrenty issue is a major plus, I have read of riders having problems and Orbea rreplacing the frame for a more up to date one without a quibble. I had a problem with the frame badges coming off( it was my fault as I had caught them with a cloth during cleaning), I wrote to them in Spain explaining my problem, six days later a packet arrived from them with three sets of badges and some promo material!
Make your choice on the bike you want based on what feels good on the test ride but if you want a great bike that you won't see too often then I know where I'd put my money.
ps I also own an Orbea Ora TT bike as wellNorfolk, who nicked all the hills?

wow, sum really positive words for orbea, I think i might just go for it. Just one more thing as i said the one at my LBS has non 105 brakes, is it worth paying bit extra and have them upgraded to 105s and same for the wheels instead of standard Mavic Aksuim upgrade them to Mavic Kysrium?
Thnx0 -
ask him to do you a deal - with all the end of season sales he should be looking for your custom. I would upgrade to 105 brakes and better wheels and tyres.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

If it helps Ive got a 2012 Orca that has the regular Orbea brakes rather than 105 and I can't fault them. Never had 105 brakes tho so can't make a comparison.0

I've got the onix t 105 2012 model in red/white and it is a great bike. I've swapped the stock tyres to schwalbe ultremo zx and tbh I can't fault the ride.
Looks like you have made up your mind but in my opinion I think you've made a good choice!0 -

Well done, sounds like a good deal. One of the advantages of going to a LBS is that you negotiate extras like you did, something you won't get with Halfords and the Boardman range(although they do make some great bikes) You can always save up over the winter for some better wheels but tbh the Askiums are a good wheel so you haven't lost out there.

Hi all. I have a testride on an black/purple Onix Dama 53 cm 105 group next Monday. I think it will be great since I now ride a 54 cm Orbea Aqua with the saddle not very high up. The Dama is the last one of the stock and it is going for .... 900 euro! But I am a man, what should I do? People will laugh. A man on a Dama bike. I will then start crying. I need your help. Should I buy?0
