rear mech and shifter for a Norco A line 06

rebuilding a Norco A line DH bike

has a 38t front ring, needs new rear cassette/mech/shifter


got a new deore 8 speed shifter, am i right in saying i can use a road 8 speed cassette, with road mech ( what length) ( not 10S) or a mtb GS mech?


have googled
Giant Trance X0 (08) Reverb, Hope Hoops 5.1D, XT brakes, RQ BC, Works Components headset 1.5

    any non 10spd MTB rear mech that matches the pull of the shifter (?).

    front ring is 38, sorry just need to get this right!

    so any shimano rear mech that is not a MTB 10spd.
