Cannondale CAAD 10 / Jamis Xenith / Other Recommendations!

Hi all!
I'm currently looking at buying my first road bike and was immediately pointed towards the cannondale caad 10, to which I was pretty set on. However when visiting my LBS I was told the Jamis Xenith was the choice I should probably be making due to the frame.
Anyway, I would love some input into possible others suggestions to look at/test out, the budget is really around the 1000 mark (max 1200)
And thoughts on the above two bikes! (alu frame vs the entry carbon)
Many thanks!

CAAD10 frame is arguably the best Alu frame in the business. It is also renowned for out performing similarly priced plastic ones.
Basically you can a have the pinnical of Alu bikes or an entry level plastic one - your choice :-)Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Is your LBS a Jamis and Cannondale dealership? That should tell you whether you're getting objective advice.0

The Cannondale CAAD10 is really starting to appeal to me. It's seems in terms of value for money to be a really impressive bike. I'm in a few minds as of right now. Can't decide between the BMC Streetracer SR01, Cannondale CAAD10, or the more expensive Cube Agree GTC. I'm looking for something light, responsive, and good value for money.0

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. What in particular do you want the road bike for? General commuting or training purposes?0 -

Thanks for your speedy response! Very helpful indeed, I shall probably stick with the original idea of the cannondale and get the premium alu frame rather than basic carbon..Gabbo wrote:I'm in exactly the same boat as you. A bit of everything really. Would like to keep up with some faster club members as well as commuting.
Will check out the BMC Streetracer SR01 today I think as another alternative ! Cheers all0 -
On aesthetics alone I'd go for a CAAD10 over any BMC, but if you like the tube configuration around the seat of the BMC Streetracer then go for that... I find it ugly in the extreme. I've had a CAAD8 (2006) and wish I hadn't sold it (and I've had some nice bikes since). One of my current bikes is a Cannondale Six Carbon - it's a great bike (Bike radar bike of the year 2010, I think), £1000.00 for a mint used one.
I wouldn't buy a Xenith because of resale value.I'm at that difficult age... somewhere between birth and death.0 -
very true, the cannondale is definitely the prettiest.0

Totally agree. The BMC rides like a dream but unfortunately for me it's way too ugly. I want something that looks nearly as good as it performs. The CAAD10 ticks those boxes.
That aside, I visited a bike shop today called 'bike republic.' They sold some very unique bikes there, one of which was a MEKK 2G Poggio (never heard of it) full carbon frame bike with a 105 groupset (I think) for £1195 - http://www.bikerepublic.com/mekk-2g-poggio/0
