What are the differences between the Hope road bottom bracket and the mtb one? I'm asking because I won one on ebay and just realised its a road bottom bracket and I need mtb, thanks.

Well, it was a general question, out of curiosity to whomsoever as could provide an answer, but mainly aimed at Gunga.
However, if you know the answer, then I would not object to your sharing of it.0 -
Because the bits that thread into the BB shell are shorter?
Excellent movie by the way. Watched it a few nights ago for the first time in 97 years.I don't do smileys.

Take a look at ukbikestore, they say the cups are the same0

Well that settles that then.
Although a link might convince me, buggered if I'm going to trawl a website looking for what you read.I don't do smileys.

and the MTB one comes with 3 x 2.5mm spacers.
does no one read the info on the makers websites?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Gunga - road bikes generally use 68mm BB shells, just like most MTBs, so what makes the tube different, if the cups are the same?0
-
of course you do, if you don't "they" will come looking for you, and kill your neighbour's unborn grandchildren.0

Argh, I give up. So... i went to look at the Hope website, and nobody so far has guessed it all correct, although some were partially correct, and others (me) were wrong.
Turns out, the tube, AND the spacers are different on the road one. Everything else remains the same.0 -
As Nick pointed out a while back. Well done.I don't do smileys.

well i would be careful on that yes hope made a road specific one but it would be fine on a 68mm MTB BB it just that it does not need to be longer on a road bike."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

There's one tube for 68/73mm and one for 83mm. The external spacers are to take up the 5mm difference. Most external BB MTB chainsets are designed to give a 50mm chainline with a 73mm BB and e-type mech (hence the extra spacer on the drive side when using a normal mech).0 -
That's what I said, although maybe not clearly. one tube for 68mm (road), one tube for 68 and 73mm, (mountain) and one tube for 83mm (DH, generally).0

any reason for saying that?
They see to last considerably longer than Shimano ones, although admittedly not long enough to justify the price difference in my opinion.0 -
none at all if I'm honest... I'd just never buy one.
I'm still yet to keep a bike long enough for a Shimano BB to wear out! I did actually run the same XT BB over about 3 years though.
Its one of the more pointless spends IMO.... on the same level as coloured jockey wheels.0
