Annoying clicking

The other day I was riding my bike up and down the lanes when I began to get a clicking notice somewhere around the cranks and bottom bracket, the hader i pedal e.g. Up a hill the louder and more frequent it is! I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts of what it might be?
