Is it possible to get a reasonable carbon frame road bike with and ultegra groupset or equivalent around the £1000 mark? Doesn't matter if its an older model on offer.

I am sure Ribble or Planet X could accomodate such a request.
    Yellow is the new Black.

Maybe a few years ago, but unlikely now. If you've got a grand and you want a good bike then look used - you'll get something way more interesting than a bog standard Planet X or Ribble.
    More problems but still living....

is the 1k limit set the by cycle to work scheme? The Planet X Pro Carbon Rival is carbon and has the SRAM Rival groupset which is about equivalent of the Ultegra i think
  • I doubt very much that you could find a new carbon framed bike with Ultegra groupset for £1000, possibly £1300 at a push. Maybe wait until about October time when all the 2012 bikes have been reduced at your local shop, might be able to pick up a bargain for cash.
Oherwise best option would be second hand. Try the classified pages on here.

Rivals more like 105, still a decent group though

I'd put Rival inbetween 105 and Ultegra. They're all decent groups though - i wouldn't get hung up buying a bike with 105 rather than Ultegra - been having a look at bikes for a mate recently and the good deals are getting snapped up at the moment. Worth checking out Dolan too - they had a load of ultegra sets they needed to shift the other day and did a deal on Mythos for £1k - got cleaned out pretty quickly.

Cycle to work is an option but not sure whether I can go over the 1k or not, still looking into it. Thanks for the link, will add it to the list. How does this compare to the btwin facet 5?

Used is an option I'm looking at, keeping an eye on the classifieds here, fleabay, gumtree, pinkbike, is there any other good ones?

As mentioned more than happy to look at 2010/2011 models if it provides a large discount

The OFT issues a licence to allow companies to organise hire agreements of up to £1,000 and hence the limit usually imposed. Its possible to go over £1,000 but only if your company has a consumer credit licence. My own bike was £2,000 on C2W, so it can be done (but we're a Financial Adviser firm)

Seen the Moser offer, was thinking of that but quite like the look of the Sensa as well, seems a bit of a bargain. Can get the custom for the same price with the 10% off which comes with mavic askiums but not sure how the supra ra24's stack up against the mavics?
