Boardman Gears

I have one of the original Boardman Comp bikes. It has the compact 50/34 chainset and a 9 speed 11-25 cassette. I could do with a lower gear for the hills and have seen that SRAM do 11-28 and 11-32 cassettes. Would the rear mech be able to handle these larger cassettes?

  • If you're referring to the Boardman Performance Hybrid Comp, then I have successfully fitted an 11-28 cassette to mine, to give me an easier gear for the steep hills.

It was an SRAM PG950 11-28 that I fitted and the rear mech handles it just fine, although I did have to adjust the B-tension screw a little to give a bit more clearance. Didn't have to change the chain length either. When I got mine, the only place I could find that sold this cassette was TREDZ.
  • Thanks. It's a Boardman Road Bike Comp with a Shimano 105 mech. I guess if it works on the Hybrid it should on the road bike, I'll give it a try.
