As per the title really.

After putting my chain back together using a new rivet instead of a missing link i started to wonder how you break the pin after fitting. Park tools says it can be done with pliers but am a little wary about this.

Anyone done it before and what did you use?

Yes, mole grips. Only because they are normally easier to reach than my pliers

With most decent chain tools there is a hole you can use to snap the extra off. I have a Park CT4.2 like this one so once the pin is fitted you put the extra bit of the pin into the back of the block on the left of the tool and use it as a lever to snap the pin. No need for two tools when one will do the job :D
