Sram BB86

So my 4 month old Scott Addict frame uses the BB86 press fit BB system. I've had an annoying clicking on the bike for a while and after checking everything (pedals, chainrings, seat post, headset etc) the only thing left is the BB. Also it only "clicks" when I'm pedalling and the crank is rotating, if I free wheel then no clicking. Now I know people have had issues with Sram BB's failing but I used a normal threaded sram BB in my last frame with no issues. But I'd expect more than 4 months out of a BB.

So I did a little seaching and came across this:

Basically one poster says that the bearings in the BB86 aren't the correct size which causes early failure. (full info in link above)

So I'm just wondering if anyone has come across this before or knows about this problem. I know the BB's are fairly cheap but I don't want to have to replace it every 3-4 months. They guy in the thread above recommends this BB from enduro seals;

Has anyone bought from enduro fork seals before? Are they OK to deal with?

I did some searching myself and found this shop selling BB86 http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=491&osCsid=buj2f7d514dlvsr841hjhooqv2

It says it is compatible with an 86.5mm shell. So I presume that is BB86. But I'm not 100% sure and I don't want to buy something that isn't right. But they also sell a ceramic version for £50. Which is a bargain compared to the price that Sram want for their one.

So if anyone could help me then I would really appreciate it as the clicking is starting to drive me mad :(

    Yes, BB86 = 86.5mm shell.

    If you've been riding lots in the rain with no mudguards, then 4 months isn't unusual - my GXP BB86 started clicking after a couple of months. The bearings started 'walking' out the plastic cups, and once they'd worn a bit, refuse to stay put. I'd be tempted by the Superstar one and an ample application of Loctite 641 bearing fit to keep it there.

    Also make sure that the crank nut is properly tightened. I had creaking and noise from my 6 month old GXP BB86 and found out that there was play in the cranks. I looked at the crank nut and it was hardly tight at all. removed and reinstalled and after 1000 miles it is still OK. After reading these threads, I am not expecting it to last forever though.

    I have ridden in the rain but not lots, in fact not a lot in the rain at all. After reading some reviews of the superstar ones I think I'll give them a miss, they seem pretty $hite.

    Yea my crank is all torqued correctly. Think I might just get the standard Sram one again and see how many months I get out of that, if it is not many again then think I'll go for the enduro ceramic one.

    Holy thread revival batman, but how's your BB now? Any joy? I have exactly the same symptoms with my 9-month-old R3 Addict with Shimano BB86 and am wondering whether it's the BB. Shame they're such a pain to remove/reinstall.
