garmin edge 500

here goes ive brought a garmin edge 500 every time i start my ride i have to press the start button to start the timer is there any way round this if i do not press it stays on the screen saying press timer . can it be run on cadence sensor with gps turned off to give me my speed i know it defeats the idea of gps but i dont mind just like the look of comp

    Not sure I understand. On mine it detects movement when you move and suggests you press start, but you can press any other button to go back to the display. I think you can also set an audible alarm when you move off without pressing start.

    Ive got auto pause enabled, which pauses the timer when you stop at say junction or traffic light, then 'un-pauses' when you move off again. Means you only need to press start at beginning and end of your ride.

    You can set the message to not show but it is there to remind you that you are not recording the ride thus mileage etc will not be recorded. If you just use it as a speedo it is a very expensive one. Learn how to use it properly and it is a great piece of kit.

    You're complaining that it wants you to press a button?! Is this really a problem? Most things need you to press a button to start them!

    If you've got the sensor set to record cadence then you can't get it to tell you speed. You'd have to take the magnet off the crank and put it on a wheel.
