Afternoon all (planet x carbon tub not clincher 50mm)

been out for a ride 54 miles and one of my spokes is loose, ive removed the tub to view the spoke hole from the top
but i can't see anyway to adjust them at all

whats the score with the bladed spoke and self adjustment ??

any help before i mess it up would be helpful (ive searched but all i get from google is wheels for sale)

somebody must have had this issue with carbon tubs ???

cheers all

Russ

  • Hi mate,

I think the spokes are tightened from the rim using one of these:

Becoming a lot more common on deeper section wheels

There are different keys for internal nipples, hexagonal and square... You need to check which nipples you have or ask px which ones they use

ive had a quick look myself

the spokes seem to have a round look and no obvious adjuster inside, looks like the spokes are set in place in the carbon mould itself (my take it the LBS get there verdict 1st)

back to the heavy front wheel :x

I seem to recall px use pillar spokes with square section internal nipples, but don't take my word for that

Yup, inverted nipples, but could be square or hex - shine a torch down through the rim bed to make sure. If you have bladed spokes you'll also need a spoke-catcher to prevent the spoke from twisting as you tighten the nipple.

ive done the torch shinning still zero clues

maybe another look 2morro when it rains before i order a TOOL :D for the tool

going faster on heavier wheels OMG ive wasted my money
  • Right just for info i finally got around to calling them after a long time LAZY LAZY LAZY

they told me it was the HEX version for new decals 50mm - turned up last Thursday and took 5 secs to sort why did i wait

with the black adjuster inside the wheel its not possible to see what version it is even with a torch

PX were very helpful even bought a new ON ONE cap

might take another 6 weeks to glue the tub back on

I'll play devils advocate and mention that a loose spoke usually means an out of true wheel. Not trying to be nasty, but your mentioning that you don't know how to tighten it up would, at least to me, indicate that you don't know how to true a wheel. Spokes a generally not something you simply tighten up and say "good to go". Know what you're doing and if you don't seek help from a bike shop or qualified friend. Key word is "qualified".
  • Make sure the wheel is round as well. Spokes work loose if they are not tensioned enough. Do the other spokes have enough tension.

  • the wheel spins up nice and true

nipped all the adjusters a NATS and spun it up many times no pro but its will do for me and my local fitness rides

FWIW aero carbon rims are pretty stiff and therefore almost impossible to pull out of true radially (up an down) -over-tighten excessively and you'll simply pull the nipple through the rim and wreck it - if you have no experience of truing wheels, unless you want to learn from expensive mistakes, suggest you take it to a specialist.
