Right My middle chain ring has worn down on my triple. I don't want to spend loads on a chain ring as my group set is only a cheap one to start off with. I've found a chain ring that's the right BCD and is for a 8 speed set up but it says that it's for a double set up am I right in thinking that as long as its the right BCD and tooth count it will work.

Thanks
Mark.

Should be absolutely fine as in most cases the inner (smallest) chainring mounts on a smaller completely separate set of mounting points. It is probably only listed as an '8 speed' as it is a bit older but it shouldn't make any difference when used on a 9 speed set up or even a 10 speed.

It's possible that the middle chainring for a triple will have ramps / pins to help the chain climb up from the inner ring. I imagine the one you've found will work, just maybe not as smoothly.
