Hi all, i am on the lookout for a new set of pedals, having used Look Keos for years i have finally got fed up with there shocking bearings, they seem to wear out very quickly, not to mention the cleats too! So I am thinking Shimano is the way for go, but everytime i see a set of speedplays i get tempted, they are expensive but are they worth it? or should i just go trusty shimano? Thoughts and reasons why appreciated

Speedplays - why - well everything they say about them on their site is true - if you check out my buyers review ( same us name) on Wiggle for the Chromoly pedals there is more detail of MHO.0

I'll cast a vote for trusty Shimano. My 7800 DA's have lasted for years with little or no maintanence. Just new cleats, but that's all of them. I really can't see how any other pedal could be "better". I would like to get the new DA carbon model but the ones I have work like new so it's pretty hard to justify throwing them away just to buy new.0

I must admit all Shimano pedals both on the road bike and MTB have been maintenance free and bullet proof. Have the 6700 on the road bike which I've been very pleased with them.Simon0

That could've been my post, as that's exactly what I'm thinking!
Look bearings are indeed shocking and I'm tempted with Speedplays.0 -
I have not had a problem yet with my look pedals but I am sick of the cleats wearing out so quick and I miss double sided pedals (I started on SPD's) I will definitely change to speedplays in the future.0

Hi- I agree with above- SPEEDPLAY. I used the entry level spd-sl's before and kept slipping at lights especially in the wet. Unlike the 'toe in and stamp down' technique required to get into shimano/look/timw etc pedals, speed plays require a simple stamp down- at first this will be difficult but you quickly learn where the cleat is on your shoe. also the pedals are double sided, the cleats are less easily worn down (but twice the price of shimano cleats..). They are also far more comfortable for long rides and feels less restricting as they have an effective adjustable float. I use 105 spd-sls on the track tho as i feel they are more suitable for tight tension (and the cleats don't destroy the wood)
Plus they are popular with team sky

I was making a similar decision but stumbled across some information about the company (speedplay) that put me off ever ordering from them.
Google for speedplay sues customers to read it.
I went for some crank brothers ones in the end. So far so good0 -
Cleat covers stop them wearing down as quickly, plus you can walk in them with no slipping.
Great investment.0 -
Has anybody used the Time I-Clic 2 pedals? I use RXS at the moment and am very happy with them, but will be getting a new bike soon, and am thinking of updating my pedals to these."There's a way of transferring funds that is even faster than electronic banking. It's called marriage."

There was a breakdown of the best pedals on this site if I remember rightly and they came top.0 -
I've had a set of Shimano 105 pedals for almost a year and apart from a little tightening on the right pedal I've had no issues, cleats still look ok too despite walking around on them quite a bit, my friends look cleats are almost ruined already and he's done 1/3 mileage I have. No experience of speedplays though.0

I have Time I-Clic 2 pedals. My last pedals were Keo Classics. I much prefer the Times. Easy to clip in and out, good float options, and not too expensive. I'd highly recommend them. I looked at Speedplays but they're not for me.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0
