No, you asked would I buy one, if I was looking for a new bike in that price range it would be on my shortlist.

Thanks, I never had a full suspension or sram gearing and dont want to make any mistakes as the missus has got a right face on as it is for buying this one, :-)

Pick a decent Halfords and you have nothing to be wary of.

Or give the bike a decent once over, which is a good idea with any bike, and don't worry about Halfords.

Yes - I would buy one today, IF I could get it past the missus - but I dont think I can get away with another bike just yet...

    A lost sale:

Check website: FS Team med & large in stock at a local store.
Visit shop, sling leg over a medium Team and a large Pro which were on display, assistant very helpful.
    "OK - I'll have a medium"
"I'll just check if they are in stock, sir"
<5 minutes messing around behind the desk>
"I'm afraid they're out of stock"
"But your website says they're available"
    Demonstrate this on mobile.
"Ah, that's because the website includes display models"
"OK, I'll have a display model"
"I'm afraid we can't sell them, they have to go back to head office."
"So when can you get them in."
<5 minutes messing around behind the desk>
"I don't know. There might be one in Cardiff."
"Do you want to take my mobile number and get back to me?"
Mobile number left for them to call back.
    No call two weeks later.
    Result: £1000 spent elsewhere.

They DO look very nice bikes - great spec, perfect for general trail stuff. But... I'm glad that in a couple of years time, if I need a new set of bearings I'll be dealing with Giant rather than Halfords.

Not if I really wanted an Anthem, no.

The Anthem (72 degree HA and 100mm suspension) is more of a full on XC bike (although can handle more). The Boardman (69 degree HA and 120mm suspension) is much closer to the Trance in the Giant range. So, if I preferred the Anthem to the Trance I wouldn't get the Boardman.

As it was I preferred the Trance so got the Trance (after seriously considering the Boardman).

    Cheers,

    Andy

  • I bought an FS Team last year after 3 years riding a Kona Hoss HT. The Boardman is a great bike with everything just a bit better than that Kona. This is my first SRAM bike and I'm impressed with the positive feel of everything. Halfords Redhill had the only medium available in the SE at the time. They set it up and it was faultless. I changed the pedals to SPDs so I can entertain other road-users with my occasional comedy dismounts. Other than that and adding a bottle-cage and saddle-bag it's as it left Redhill. I had a bad service at local Halfords (Farnham) after 6 months resulting in front derailleur issues and chain-offs. They corrected the errors with no hassle but it was a bit disappointing. So, bike great,Halfords two-thirds good and I would recommend both.
