Campag pre-2000 brake holder compatibility

Hi everyone. I need to get some new brake holders for my Campag pre 2000 road brakes and would like to upgrade these to perhaps a Koolstop or Swisstop set of holders. I was wondering if the latest Shimano (Dura) holders from these manufacturers would be compatible. The only problem perhaps would be the screw diameter being too large or too small but since I don't have any shimano calipers I cannot measure the width of the screw slot

The screws on Shimano pad-holders are too narrow, so suggest you track down some the right width. Try Bikefridge on ebay £6.49/pr
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • OK cheers Monty Dog, though they should do the job if screwed up tightly enough wouldn't they? Has nobody done this before? I really want to avoid using the short but wider inserts on the older campag brake holders as they are a bit too wide for my wheel rims. Going for something post 2000 should help and getting shimano compatible holders would mean I'd be able to get a wider range of inserts I'd have thought?

I wouldn't - having a sloppy brake shoe could lead to all sorts of troubles as it will likely not hold firmly. You could get someone to turn some suitable metal spacer bushes.
