Grinding from rear wheel - servicable?
Hi all,
After a more careful strip down and inspection of my bike, it turns out the freewheel (not freehub, although could be that too) is making a god awful crunching sound. It occurs while pedalling and freewheeling which is what makes me think that it is the bearings in the wheel axle itself.
I have Ultegra 6500 hubs with Kronos Vuelta rims, and was wondering how hard it is to open her up and replace the insides.
If not, I have seen some good deals on the 7900 hubs somewhere, so was going to replace it with one of those (a rear hub for life, I have been told) if I can't repair it, and have it rebuilt onto the same rim.
Cheers for any thoughts - and if it is hard and not to be undertaken by mere mortals, or can you recommend someone who can turn it around quickly.

...shows you which bearings you need, you can buy here...

if it just needs cleaning, greasing and new ball bearings it's straightforward, cones can be replaced too, but if the cups are worn it's a rebuild
there's a good how-to guide here with plenty of pics...

...you just need the cone spanners (thin spanners) and some greasemy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
amazing. Thanks very much!0
