Hi all,

Yesterday I cycled up the Grand Colombier for the first time. This is the new 2012 Tour de France climb in the Ain region of France, and the Tour will race this climb on stage 10 of this year's Tour de France.

It's a 18.3km climb with 1220 metres of vertical ascent at an average of 6.9%. Most of the climb is ridden under the trees with the views coming in the first few kilometres and the last three kilometres.

It's certainly a tough climb with gradients that change all the time. There are a number of long, straight sections where the road is steep and the trees hide any views - I like views to help take my mind off the gradient. Some kilometres are as low as 3% gradient, and others are more than 10% with some sections up to 14%. The Grand Colombier will make a great addition to the race.
