I have an old 105 chain set for an 8 speed, i have 52 / 39 on the front, so i struggle up hills....grinding is the only painful way.
Can i just reduce the innder ring, say tp 34 ??

If I can, has anyone got any recommendations of chainrings, and where to get them >

No, the smallest chainring you can use is a 38. To get lower gears you need a compact chainset which generally come with50/34 rings.

Try changing the cassette for a quick and cheaper fix. Even 2 extra teeth on the rear makes a big difference.
